Recommended Faculty Timeline for Lecture Production
This page presents an overview of what faculty should be considering during each phase of the recommended lecture production cycle. These are recommendations, not requirements, for recording with CTL; however, please note the recording deadlines and ensure that you allow yourself enough time to record all the materials you want for a given offering.
To learn more about the production process at CTL, visit the CTL Production Teams page.
To view options to help you decide which type of content you want to produce, visit the Content Types page.
To view recording options, please visit the Recording Options page.
To see an overview of the CTL production process, including the Production Timelines for the current academic year, see the Production Process page. (A 16 week outlook of the production process, with calendar dates, is provided.)
To see our recording deadlines, see the Recording Timelines page.
16 Weeks Before the Term Starts
-
Reflect on existing course content: What needs to be refreshed, replaced or added?
-
Will you be inviting guest speakers to record materials for your course? Reach out to each guest to confirm their topic and clearly communicate with them about how their contribution will support the course learning objectives. When you have confirmed a guest’s participation, connect them with your instructional designer.
-
Share your production plan with your instructional designer, including lecture titles and speakers, the sequence of lectures, and the dates that the course materials should open to students.
-
Begin to schedule your audio + PowerPoint lecture recording appointments. This can be done on our scheduling page. (Remember to contact your instructional designer BEFORE scheduling recording appointments.)
12 Weeks Before the Term Starts
-
Schedule audio + PowerPoint lecture recording appointments (and/or video recording appointments) by the term recording deadline. Here is the link to schedule your audio + PowerPoint lecture recording. (Remember to contact your instructional designer BEFORE scheduling recording appointments.)
-
If you are planning to record video content, schedule a meeting with your instructional designer and a video producer to discuss your plans and find the best video option for the content.
-
Begin to prepare for audio + PowerPoint recording appointments by polishing slides, confirming all sources, borrowing a microphone if needed (you can borrow high-quality microphones through CTLs audio loaner program), and drafting an outline or script.
-
Review any resources that will help you feel prepared:
-

-
If you are new to recording audio + PowerPoint lectures with CTL, set up a meeting with your instructional designer and an audio producer to become more comfortable with what to expect.
8 Weeks Before the Term Starts
-
At this point, the faculty should have recorded all of their audio + PowerPoint lectures with the audio producers. (See the table on the Recording Timelines page for exact deadlines.)
-
If you have not already done so, this is a good point at which to focus on improving assignments and scheduling LiveTalks for the term.
4 Weeks Before the Term Starts
-
At this point, any video content recordings should be completed. (Again, see the table on the Recording Timelines page for deadlines by term.)
-
As the production team works on your course materials, they may have the instructional designer reach out to you to clarify content or sources.
2 Weeks Before the Term Starts
-
As your new course content becomes available, review it to make sure it is ready for your learners in CoursePlus.
-
Make sure that each new lecture has lecture learning objectives on the lecture landing page.
1 Week Before the Term Starts
-
Complete a final review of the course material. If you notice any issues with lectures or content, contact your instructional designer straight away so that the issue can be resolved before the content is available to students.
